Tue 14 Jun - Thu 14 Jul
Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand
Fri 17 - To Halong Bay And Beyond
When he said it was going to be a 08:30 start I was pleasantly surprised! Not too early I thought...well I was wrong! Thanks to jet lag it still felt like the middle of the night! Still, up and out it was, quick bacon buttie and onto the bus for the 3.5 hour trip to Halong Bay!
We met our local guide Ha on the way to Halong Bay who told us all about the history of the bay and the Chinese tales about how it was formed. What awaited us were 2000 islands and beautiful weather!
When someone tells you you're going to be staying on a 'Junk Boat' you can't help but fear the worst! In reality I have never been on a better boat! With 10 twin and double rooms, a dinning room not out of place at a Wedding and waiter service for drinks it was truly fitting that this old wooden Vietnamese sailing boat was so well looked after.
Sailing around the islands you became lost in your own world, everywhere you look new islands all of different shapes and sizes. The 2 that we stopped at had hundreds of steps up to reach deep long caves and tall high view points both giving completely different views but both spectacular!
Lunch and Dinner consisted of an 8 course seafood menu ranging from fresh clams, shrimp and crab to a full fish! Quite how you can cook such great meals on a boat always surprises me!
We also got to kayak around the islands for an hour or so and whilst our technique left a lot to be desired (blame Em not me!) it never ceased to amaze when you looked up and around at the views.
The night ended sitting on the sun deck under the stars thinking that we really couldn't be in a better place together and sharing our honeymoon!
