Champions League this season. Spurs are through, Man Utd and Chelsea followed
this week and we only lost Arsenal to an outstanding Barcelona performance! In
short, the chances of us having an all Premiership final aren't looking too bad
right now. Great right.....wrong....I couldn't think of anything worse!
Call me an old romantic but I don't want the European
Champions League final to be just another Premiership game. I want to see the
best of what the continent has got to offer. I want to see the Messi's and Ronaldo's
taking on the best English team.

There's nothing I'd like more than to see the old style
European competitions return to our screens. This means the days of old when
the Champions League contained just that...the Champions from all the
participating countries. Why should a team that finished as low as 4th in some
leagues get the right to knock out another countries Champions in one on the 4 qualifying
rounds? You may argue it's right because their stronger...but on that basis
just make it a league with teams from England, Italy and Spain!

People make fun of the Europa League, say it's for Champions
League drop outs and teams that have fallen from European grace. I don't
remember anyone ever saying this when it was a privilege to take part in the
UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners Cup! One of my fondest memories was supporting an
English Arsenal team vs Parma in the Cup Winners Cup final in the 90's. It
really meant something to compete in the competition and certainly meant a lot
to win it.

bit as glamorous as the Champions league. To let some teams into the Europa
League because they've been knocked out of the Champions League is a joke. They
got knocked out. The word out means they're out, why should they have another
crack at a competition that other teams have worked their socks off at!

Once again it's driven by TV schedules and Corporate sponsorship.
But am I right, is it really what the fans want? Do people prefer the new
format or would they rather have three independent European Competitions, full
of all the best teams and more importantly....only Champions in the Champions
